More changes occurred to the Mitsubishi Eclipse when the fourth generation was introduced in 2006. The 4G64 standard inline four was replaced with a more modern 4G69 2.4L engine incorporating Mitsubishi's MIVEC Variable Valve Timing technology. The 3.0L V6 engine was dropped from the Eclipse’s list of available options and replaced by the 3.8-liter 6G75 V6 engine.
