Team Worsham Good Contender at Southern Nationals in Georgia

Jeff Arend is taking over the controls in the blue Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen Funny Car to add a lot of power to Team Worsham. Arend earned a quarter-final finish at the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals in Commerce, Georgia.

Arend and his group ran well coming into the race. Since the season began, he qualified at every race and held a spot in the top eight since the first stop on the tour. Even though they had not won a round since the opening weekend, the close losses were still losses. Arend wanted to reverse the trend at Atlanta Dragway.

“We’ve been running well, and I think we’ve been running well enough to win, but we have been getting bit by the photo-finish bug a bit lately,” said Arend. “There are so many great teams, but there’s never a chance to squeak one out or take a breather. It seems like, every time you turn around you’re racing one of the best teams in the world. Coming here, I know we all wanted to make it clear that we think we can run with all of these teams and no one should be surprised to see us up here in points or someday soon in the Winner’s Circle.”

When the blue CSK Impala made its debut Friday in Atlanta, Arend was 3rd on the qualifying list and had reset both of his career-best marks. Worsham Racing uses K&N Engineering products on both of their CSK Funny Cars. “The thick canister walls on the K&N Oil Filters have extra strength and durability,” said Team Manager Bob Wilber. “It reduces the risk of damage from debris in our engines.”

On Saturday, Arend earned a first round with Gary Densham. The race was decided quickly and Arend was moving on.

“Del Worsham won too, and that was a big win for our whole program,” said Arend “We’re intent upon being in the mix when the playoff system starts in September and have a lot of motivation with the thought of a possible all CSK semi final.”

In the second round, Arend joined Tony Pedregon and Gary Scelzi as second-round losers. His teammate Del Worsham lost to Robert Hight. “For us, a statement was made in the first round and in qualifying,” said Arend. “We still have so much potential to show. I’m glad we’re racing next weekend because I can’t wait.”

Team Worsham will race at St. Louis the first weekend in May.
