The Hot Rod Power Tour Rumbles with K&N

For car enthusiasts, the national Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour is the real deal. The participants range from having one car or a fleet of cars. Jay Leno provided his 1932 Deuce Convertible and guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepard drove his modified 1969 Dodge Charger.

This year’s seven city tour started in Kissimmee, Florida and ended in Englishtown, New Jersey with stops in Gainesville, Florida, Perry, Georgia, Columbia, South Carolina, Salem, Virginia and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Patrick Thiele joined the southern leg of the 12th annual tour with his 1968 GMC Pick-up at Columbia, South Carolina. Thiele met the representatives from K&N Engineering’s Truck and Trailer program, part of the 1500 or so long-haulers that went to every stop on the tour.

“I use K&N Air Filters on all my cars and motorcycles,” said Thiele. “This was my 68’s maiden voyage and I couldn’t have a better air filter on it. After market parts are hard to find, but if I paid a million dollars for a filter, I don’t think I could have found anything better than K&N’s 60-0410, a custom air cleaner assembly designed for use on nostalgia engines.” K&N’ Engineering’s 60-0410 incorporates a K&N Air Filter and combines high air flow with great looks.

Mike White from Montgomery, Illinois did the restoration on my Tara- Blue GMC Pick-up, said Thiele. “We polished the aluminum on the K&N assembly to match the fins that are on my valve cover,” said Thiele. “I’ve always used K&N products; you can’t beat the performance, the cost and the warranty.”

Participants spend a lot of time admiring cars, discussing cars and whenever someone has a problem, working on cars. “There is not a lot of pressure on the Hot Rod Power Tour,” said Thiele. “This is not your typical auto show because cars are not in a glass bubble. We touch cars, help each other and even go through puddles with our prized possessions.”

K&N Engineering’s Marketing and Sales Program Manager Brett Kinsfather was on every leg of the 1300 plus mile tour in the K&N Truck and Trailer. “It’s really good to know your customers,” said Kinsfather. “I was able to really get to know the people who drive their classic or modified cars and who love their cars and our K&N products. There is a lot of camaraderie.”
